Virtual River River Discharge: Measure of river discharge questions: Got both questions right on how to best describe discharge. On page 4 of 25, guessed wrong because I didn’t notice they flipped the picture so the flow was going on the opposite direction. Hydrologists use wading rods to measure the velocity of a river. The stream velocity is fastest when it’s closer to the surface. To find the average stream velocity, I recorded and calculated 2 trials of velocities at different depth levels and graphed the results.
It was an upward sloping arc. Then I calculated the the depth of the river and used the sixth tenth rule to find out where the average velocity should be measured. The I calculated the width of the river and used all the info to calculate the discharge. New terminology such as cutbank, and riffle. I got to page 22 of 25 and the calculations wouldn’t come out and couldn’t figure out what to do.
Based the data on both the stream depth and the relative depth and neither came out to be right, so I couldn’t get past page I went back a few pages and started everything over and successfully finished page
